Austin’s PacShore office runs 5K to benefit Habitat for Humanity
Pacific Shore Stones employees spend their weekend giving back
AUSTIN, TEXAS – FEBRURARY 6, 2012 - This past Saturday, the Austin Pacific Shore Stones employees weren’t spending their day-off sleeping in or watching morning cartoons, they were wide awake and had laced up their running shoes to partake in The Color Run 5K benefiting The Habitat for Humanity.
Pacific Shore Stones not only takes pride in supporting its local community but also wants to share its enthusiasm to support its surrounding community with its employees. By offering to sponsor the Pacific Shore Stones Color Run Team, partners Marco Pereira & Vinny Tavares, hope to not only engrave a sense of community in their employees but also express that the company actively encourages their participation in fun, bonding events that simultaneously support service organizations.
The day of the race brought unusually cold and rainy weather to the Austin area, but the PacShore team endured the elements of wind, rain, mud & color to complete the race. Austin manager, Nancy Gresak says about the event, “We stuck it out and all had a good time because we knew in the end it benefited a good cause.”
The race, true to its name, included clouds of color being thrown at its participants at every one kilometer of the race. Each kilometer was representative of a different color and the end concluded with a rainbow of powder that showered its finishers. Throughout the race participants scaled the muddy terrain. “It should have been considered more of a mud-run,” says Rebecca Roque, PacShore sales associate, since the majority of the race was completed in ankle deep mud that took many running shoes hostage. The race is truly a unique, one of a kind event that appeared to house more of a celebration of togetherness than any real competition amongst its runners.
Partner Marco Pereira believes that corporate responsibility and public relations is not only about “building the brand, but displaying the company’s passion and connection to the community that supports the business.” Fun events such as The Color Run can benefit an organization on many levels – increasing employee morale, supporting the community, and expressing the company’s interests in the overall wellbeing of its stakeholders. Pacific Shore Stones plans to make such events a regular part of its corporate social responsibility initiative – this run being just one of many to follow.
